ladanum

Ladanum is a varnish or gluey coating found on the leaves of Cistus creticus, which grows in Crete.

“Stripes of labdanum” or ladanum: a fragrant, resinous exudation from the plants Cystus creticus and Cystus ladaniferus.

Ladanum, lad′a-num, n. a resinous exudation from the leaves of a shrub growing round the Mediterranean.

On the west side of the island the peasants distil rose, orange, and lavender water, and myrtle and ladanum oil.
