Two methods are employed: (i) The knife; (ii) The galvano-cautery.

The galvano-cautery, trephine, and spokeshave should be avoided.

Thorough cauterization by means of caustic potash or the galvano-cautery; or, its extirpation by means of the curette or excision.

According to Galvano, the Portuguese historian, Saavedra's discoveries in 1529 were more extensive than in 1528.

In favour of the galvano-cautery is the fact that the perforation does not tend to close so rapidly.
